In major urban areas north of Chandigarh, like Jallandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar there is practically no advancement in  urban planning issues barring some widening of roads, introduction of  flyovers or bypasses, and over all architectural scenario is in dismal state. Excepting for some eating joint on the highway much on the theme park lines is somewhat contemporary vernacular. Old part of Jallandhar is on verge of some collapse. Ludhiana is still worse. Their lack of urban services and traffic planning are so apparent.

Amritsar's old havelis which throw much light on urban vernacular need more infrastructural support without which we will have only some ruins left or their rebuilding sooner or later.

Further rural vernacular of the green and fertile belt around theses urban areas is yet  in state of transformation as urban developers are in dire search of these areas for future change in landuse.
